Nerf Vortex Pyragon blasterNerf is known for making cool toy guns for kids that fire the famous Nerf darts, which are soft and completely safe for kids projectiles, unlike those used by other toy guns.

Some of their new guns however, those of the Vortex line, use a new type of ammo: the XLR discs.

Those discs are just as safe as Nerf darts, but they are easier to load into magazines and guns and they have other unique properties, which have made Vortex guns the weapons of choice of many elite Nerfers.

Being a relatively new series the Vortex line doesn’t have that many guns to choose from yet, but from the ones available, there is one that truly signs: the Nerf Vortex Pyragon blaster. What makes this XLR disc firing Nerf gun so good? well, keep on reading and you will find out!

Overview

A good Nerf assault blaster should have two things: large ammo capacity and great rate of fire. The Nerf Vortex Pyragon blaster is the first Disc firing Nerf gun to provide you with the perfect combination of those two essential traits. Not only does it have one of the highest ammo capacities (if not the highest) when it comes to Vortex Nerf guns, it is also the first disc firing blaster that is able to slamfire, a feature that up until now was unique to high end dart blasters! Let’s take a more detailed look at it:

Range

The Nerf Vortex Pyragon blaster has an amazing range of a whopping sixty to seventy feet, which is by far higher than that of the vast majority of Vortex blasters. This essentially means that you will be able to outrange pretty much all of your Vortex gun wielding friends, as well as many of those using regular, dart firing blasters. Better yet, the Pyragon does not lose any range when used in slam fire mode!

Rate of fire

Another really cool thing about the Nerf Vortex Pyragon blaster, is the fact that comes with a truly amazing rate of fire. It is able of unleashing four to five discs per second, which makes it very fast, even compared to traditional dart blasters that can be slam fired. It can also shoot all of its forty discs in 8.1 seconds.

Ammo capacity

This is where the Pyragon really shines! It comes equipped with a forty disc drum, which is the largest stock ammo capacity ever released for a Vortex blaster. Not only that, but it is also fully compatible with regular Vortex magazines, which means that you can use the magazines that came with your other Vortex guns to ensure that you will never run out of ammo during combat.

Reliability

The Vortex Pyragon blaster will almost never jam on you, however it should be noted that when the trigger is pulled back slowly, it loses some of its accuracy. Also, when the XLR discs are rotating between the inner chambers of the forty disc drum, one may pop out from time to time.

Like all other Vortex blasters, the XLR discs that the Pyragon fires, tend to curve off to the right when first fired and after they fly for a few feet they start curving back towards the left.

The Pyragon, like ALL Vortex blasters, does this consistently, which means that if you are familiar with Vortex guns you will have no problem with it. If you are not however, with a little practice you will be able to learn how to compensate for that curving, or even how to use it to your advantage during your Nerf War games.
