Elite Rampage blaster 1The people at Nerf have decided that the time has come to update and improve some of their most classic blasters and this is pretty much how the new N-Strike Elite Series was born.

Although this new series does have some unique blasters to show for itself, it mostly consists of new versions of classic Nerf guns. The main selling point of those updated blasters, apart from some aesthetic updates, is the fact that they now feature direct plunger firing mechanisms, instead of reverse plunger ones.

This means that they have far greater range and better accuracy than their classic counterparts.

The Nerf Raider is the assault blaster of choice of many of the most famous Nerfers, which is why it was also one of the first blasters that Nerf updated when it launched the N-Strike Elite series. The Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster is marketed as the successor of the Raider. Does it have what it takes to dethrone its very popular predecessor? Read my N-Strike Elite Rampage review and find out!

The Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster at a glance

Elite Rampage BlasterUnlike most other N-Strike blasters the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster looks a lot like its predecessor. In fact, in some markets they are pretty much identical since the Raider was released with a blue and orange colour scheme, the same scheme that Elite Nerf guns use, there.

Looks can be deceiving however, as “under the hood” the two guns couldn’t be more different. The direct plunger firing mechanism of the Rampage provides it with a significant edge over the Raider.

Range

Like all N-strike Elite Nerf guns, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster has a vastly improved range over its predecessor. To be more precise, it has a firing range of forty to fifty feet when fired flat, and its Elite Darts can reach an incredible distance of seventy-five feet, when the gun is fired at an angle.

It should be noted that you will get the same ranges regardless of whether you use Elite darts or Streamlines, which, as I am sure you know, are far more common.

Firing rate

The Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster can either fire an individual shot after being primed, just like all Nerf guns, or it can be slam fired. When being fired in single shot mode, this Elite blaster has a rate of fire of about one or two darts a second.

If you slam fire it however, you can easily get it to fire up to three to four darts a second. This means that it will shoot all of its darts in about twelve seconds in single shot mode, or in five seconds (!) when slam fired.

Ammo capacity

The Rampage Elite Nerf gun comes with 25 dart capacity drum magazine, which is definitely large, but it’s a tad smaller than the 35 round capacity drum magazine that the Raider comes with. It should be noted that the drum magazine of the Rampage features a new, centered design which makes for better weight distribution and makes aiming it a lot easier and faster.

How does it stack up against the Raider?

As far as performance is concerned, there is no doubt that the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster is better than the Raider in every single way. Especially when it comes to range, since an unmodified Rampage Elite Blaster can achieve greater ranges than even a heavily modified Raider.

The Raider however comes with a larger capacity magazine, but the one that the Rampage comes packaged with, features a much better design. It should also be noted that the Rampage is compatible with the Raider’s and all other N-Strike magazines, which means that if ammo capacity is very important to you, you can easily replace its stock magazine.
